There has bee “competitive conflict” between EA’s and Valve’s digital distribution services- Origin and Steam (respectively). Valve’s boss, Gabe Newell, however, has tried out his rival distribution service Origin, and he’s also given his verdict.
“I think it does some things well,” Newell said in the latest issue of PC Gamer. “I think there are still some areas where, as a customer, I’d like to see it improve. It’s not that different from any other system like this. There are positive things and negative things.”
When talking about Valve’s Steam, he said: “I and everyone at Valve know that you’re only as successful as what you’ve done lately. So the idea that Steam is somehow the answer to digital distribution ignores the fact that every two or three years, something is going to change dramatically.”
Seeing as the likes of Battlefield 3, Mass Effect 3 and other pretty big EA releases will not be listed on Steam’s store, Valve’s service might have a slight negative impact.
