Stardock, the developers behind the Galactic Civilizations series, has announced that the latest entry in the series, Galactic Civilizations 3, will be released exclusively for 64-bit PC computers.

Stardock Entertainment vice president Derek Paxton had the following to say regarding the above mentioned announcement.

“The move to 64-bit architecture heralds a new era of game development at Stardock, the technology allows players to experience a level of graphical detail and on-screen activity unprecedented in large-scale strategy PC games. It dramatically increases the size and scope of the maps, and opens the door for modders to add a virtually unlimited amount of new content to the game.”

Stardock President and CEO Brad Wardell also chipped in with his thoughts:

“I have a hard time believing Stardock is 20 years old, I’m working on projects I’m excited about every day, and being able to still say that after all these years is an incredible feeling. I’m honored to look around the company and be surrounded by some of the industry’s top talent in software and game development. Ironically, I only founded Stardock until I could find a ‘real job’. It appears I’ll never get that real job, and that’s just fine.”

“So much has happened at Stardock over the past twenty years, but I sometimes feel like we’re just getting started. There’s so much awesome stuff in the works right now. We’re on the verge of so many new technologies and ideas that will change the way games and software are developed. We, as an industry, are heading into a golden age,” he added.

While no release date has been set, players can pre-order Stardock through the game’s official website. The ‘Founder’s Elite Edition’ will cost players $39.99 which will give them access to all the downloadable content and whatever expansions Stardock will release in the future.
