RESIDENT EVIL 2 (1998)
Similar to Resident Evil 4, the original RE2 also had to go through some redesigns in its early development stages. Under Hideki Kamiya, the original vision for the game was originally quite different, and that earlier build, which is now known as Resident Evil 1.5, had everything from a completely different protagonist alongside Leon to different environments and gameplay mechanics that never made it into the final product, such as being able to equip defensive gear. The game was, in fact, about 60-80% done when it was scrapped, because Shinji Mikami, who was still overseeing the project, wasn’t satisfied with how it was turning out. Of course, in retrospect, that was probably for the best, because the Resident Evil 2 we ended up getting is one of the best horror games ever made to this day.
