Best Multiplatform Title:
With current-gen platforms still holding sway over tens of millions of gamers around the world, it only makes sense to continue to cater to the Xbox 360 and PS3, even if the next generation is past our door, in our house and setting up living space. The problem that arose for many AAA titles in November was a serious one however – how do you cater to six platforms and provide the same compelling experience across each? How do you take advantage of the PS4 and Xbox One? How do you give PC users the best visuals? How do you get Wii U users to believe they still matter? Some multiplatform titles released this year ditched the next-gen, instead delivering a compelling experience across the current generation. Which one succeeded?
Nominees:
– Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag
– Tomb Raider
– Batman: Arkham Origins
– Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance
– Rayman Legends
Winner: Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag
Releasing across all six platforms – Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS3, PS4, Wii U and PC – Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag not only provided a consistent visual presentation across each but also managed to cater to next-gen gamers with improved anti-aliasing and higher resolution. PC users benefited from NVidia-exclusive features that still continue to roll out and look glorious. Overall, Ubisoft Montreal discovered a way to cram the expansive gameplay of Black Flag on to each platform without compromise. It’s also equally fun across platforms, so there’s that.
