The Resident Evil franchise was in the worst shape of its life not so long ago, but Resident Evil 7 came along and completely turned its fortunes around. It did so by shedding all the excessive fat the series had taken on over the course of its last few instalments, instead focusing on delivering an intimate and intense horror experience, in true Resident Evil fashion. The shift to a first person perspective worked wonderfully, as Resident Evil 7 was able to provide the same sense of palpable tension that the series was known for in its earlier years. It’s great to see a real titan of the industry returning to form so magnificently.
