Kotaku recently ran a story where an unnamed source talked about Battleborn, Gearbox Software’s FPS/MOBA hybrid, going free to play in the coming months. The announcement is expected to come in November though there have numerous delays in that regard so it could change.
However, Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford took to Twitter to deny the report. “I was just told about a reckless story about Battleborn going F2P that is false. There are no plans to convert Battleborn free to play.”
Pitchford noted that, “We have some unannounced plans to do a trial version of the game that would be free and from which retail can be purchased along with DLC.”
These came across as the game having a timed demo of sorts to which Pitchford responded, “I don’t think timed demo is right. I think we need to sort our plans FIRST and then announce them. Call in a few months.”
This seems to indicate a free version of sorts which players could then upgrade into the full version by making purchases. Again, it’s not quite 100 percent so stay tuned for more information in the coming months.
