Apparently, Gearbox was the target of a bomb threat- the local police of Plano, Texas, dispatched a police force to investigate what was a car bomb threat, with a bomb investigation robot. The incident occurred at 7.30 pm Central Time, well after most Gearbox employees had gone home.
“I witnessed many police cars, the bomb disposal unit’s bus, the robot and several BDU and PPD personnel working,” Gearbox head honcho Randy Pitchford said. “I (foolishly) was not worried (choosing to believe the threat not credible), but Plano PD was pro, all business and kept everyone safe!”
However, today, the Plano PD seems to have confirmed that the bomb threat was ultimately not intended for Gearbox.
“We received a tip that there was a bomb of some sort,” said David Tilley, the information officer for the Plano Police Department. Speaking to Polygon, Tilley added the bomb scare was ultimately a hoax.
“More often than not, that’s exactly the case. From what I understand the owner of the car didn’t have anything to do with Gearbox. There wasn’t any relationship at all, or any tie at all to anybody that we could determine as far as Gearbox was concerned.”
Well, thank goodness that everyone seems to have emerged on the other side unscathed. On the other hand, the perpetrator of the hoax, I hope he’s tracked down soon. Fake bomb scares are not a laughing matter.
