Gears 5 was the latest entry in the long running series from Microsoft and one that is now handled by The Coalition. Over a year later, the game is still getting support, including a lot of big enhancements for the new Xbox Series X and S. Along with that came the surprise announcement that it would be getting a story-focused DLC about the Hivebusters, a group of characters introduced in the new Escape multiplayer mode. Now we know when it’ll be here.
The DLC, called Hivebusters, got a cinematic-heavy trailer, which you can see in full below. It will have 3 player co-op, just like Escape, as well as new achievements and the ability to use Ultimate Abilities for the first time in a story campaign. It’ll have its own standalone story that’s said to be roughly 3 hours long and introduces a new enemy.
Gears 5 is available now for Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One and PC. Hivebusters will launch December 18th for all platforms and will be included free of charge for those with a Game Pass Ultimate subscription.
