Development on Gears 6 has been ongoing for a while now, and with reports having claimed last year that developer The Coalition had cancelled two unannounced projects in order to focus on its flagship third-person shooter, many are beginning to wonder when it’ll be officially announced, especially with Gears 5 approaching its fifth anniversary.
Interestingly, according to journalist Jeff Grubb, we’re not going to have to wait too much longer. Speaking recently during the Kinda Funny Xbox podcast, the Xcast, Grubb suggested that the game is likely to be announced this Summer.
“I’ve heard some stuff might be happening with Gears 6 this Summer,” he said. Shortly afterward, journalist Tom Warren of The Verge tweeted about Grubb’s reporting, saying simply that it was “correct” information.
Microsoft announced earlier this year that the Xbox Game Showcase will be returning in June, so if a new Gears of War title is indeed going to be announced this Summer, it’s likely that that’s the stage Microsoft will choose for it.
Earlier this year, it was claimed that Gears 6 was further along in production than many were expecting, and that it would continue to use the semi-open world elements introduced in 2019’s Gears 5. Read more on that through here.
