At this year’s The Game Awards we finally got a release date for the spin-off, Gears Tactics. The game will be a turn based strategy game that will see villains and heroes from the game taking each other out in a much different way. And as far as microtransactions go, apparently you’ll be free from them in the game, which is aiming to be a single player experience.

As confirmed from the official Twitter of The Coalition’s Rod Fergusson, Tactics will be a single player focused game. As shown in the release date trailer, there’s tons of unlockable cosmetics to deck out your characters, and Fergusson says those will all be unlockable in game with no microstransactions.

Whether that will remain the same throughout or they will be added later remains to be seen (hard not to be cynical about things like that nowadays), but either way the game will launch on both Xbox One and PC April 28th 2020, microtransaction-free.
