IDENTITY CRISIS
This is one of the biggest issues with Breakpoint– it feels like it doesn’t know what sort of game it wants to be. It presents itself as a story of lone soldiers fighting against insurmountable odds, but half-baked mechanics clash with that. It’s supposed to be a tactical shooter in vein of its predecessors, but then it throws in decidedly not-very-tactical gameplay mechanics into the mix (which we’ll get to in a bit). We mentioned earlier that it tries to do too many things at the same time, and not only is that something that contributes to the game’s aforementioned bloat, it also makes it so that Brakpoint feels elements from various Ubisoft games have haphazardly been thrown in together, even if they don’t mix.
