Sony have officially confirmed Gran Turismo 6 for the PlayStation 3 and will be due for a release later this year. However, there are no reports of a PS4 version coming out anytime soon.

“GT6 for PlayStation 3 will bring new levels of authenticity to ‘the Real Driving Simulator’ as well as introducing stunning new tracks and cars and a revised user interface,” according to the press release.

Gran Turismo 6 will be running on a brand new engine that will help Polyphony Digital to expand the game with DLC.

“A new compact game engine will improve operation and increase the flexibility to expand it with downloadable content.”

Kazunori Yamauchi shared his thoughts on the game. “It is amazing to think that it is 15 years since we first released Gran Turismo.”

“Things have changed a lot since then and now Gran Turismo 6 is a further evolution of my dream. We’re pleased to deliver GT6 to PlayStation 3 as we have a very loyal community on that platform.”

According to the press release, UK’s Silverstone Circuit will be one of seven new locations in Gran Turismo 6, taking the total to 33, with 71 different layouts available, 19 of them being new.

There will also be 1200 cars at launch with all the cars from GT5 being included in GT 6.

We should have more information for Gran Turismo 5 later today.
