Even though Gran Turismo 6 will be releasing this December for the PlayStation 3, Polyphony Digital has expressed interest in bringing out the next edition for the series much more quickly. In fact, series creator and head of Polyphony Kazunori Yamauchi recently told Top Gear that, “We don’t want to take too long on Gran Turismo 7. Best-case scenario? Next year.”

Unrealistic? Not exactly, according to Yamauchi who believes the PS4 may be able to help reduce the long dev cycle seen till now. “In GT6 we really had to tune the software 100% to maximise the PS3′s architecture. But of course the PS4′s hardware is much better, so I think the overall quality of the game across the board will be boosted when you come to play it.”

This more than suggests that the next edition will be on the PS4. Does that mean we can snuff out rumours of a PS4 version for GT6? Regardless, Gran Turismo 6 will be launching on December 6th worldwide for PS3.
