Polyphony Digital, developers of the Gran Turismo franchise, have opened a new studio in the Ueno district of Tokyo. The Ueno Atelier studio is their third studio in Japan, and fifth in total worldwide (with one being in Amsterdam and another in Los Angeles).

From the looks of it, the Ueno studio is going to act as a support studio to the others, especially those in close proximity in Japan. The developer’s recruitment page mentions that the new studio was set up in Ueno due to “its proximity to the Tokyo University of the Arts”. Several students from the institution are working with the studio part-time in support of other Polyphony Digital teams, while some have become full time staffers following their graduations.

Given the timing of the establishment of the new studio, one has to wonder whether Polyphony Digital is gearing up for a new Gran Turismo title for the PS5, or whether this is just a coincidence. Just a couple days ago, we reported that Polyphony Digital had also developed their own custom in-house ray tracing tech. Read more about that through here.
