Publisher NCsoft has announced that Guild Wars 2 has reached number one in the official video game charts in no less than ten different countries.

Launched less than two weeks ago, Guild Wars 2 had been awaited with bated breath, the media, currently residing at the heady heights of 92/100 on Metacritic, being awarded 9.5/10 by yours truly.

It current sits atop the charts in: UK, Germany, France, Spain, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, the Netherlands and Belgium, all of which NCsoft regard as Europe’s main territories, although I’m not sure what the Italians are going to say about that.

Mike O’Brien, president and co-founder of ArenaNet stated “Our games have always been well-received in Europe, but this level of enthusiasm is both awesome and humbling.

“It also impresses upon us the responsibility we have to our players and explains why we’ve taken steps recently to constrain sales of Guild Wars 2 to ensure the highest quality of service. Of course, we hope to remedy this in the near future.”
