Gungrave G.O.R.E.: Blood Heat has been on our minds ever since we first heard tell of it at the 2025 leg of the Tokyo Games Show.
We weren’t too happy with the original 2022 release, despite finding its combat quite entertaining, thanks to its repetitive gameplay and a rather lackluster story. And while it may be too late to change the latter for the better, we believe the sequel’s latest trailer is an indicator that the former is about to get a reasonably good upgrade. It’s looking like a modern touch on a game that was held back because it was too old-school for its own good. That’s a potentially excellent direction to take if one aimed to address those concerns.
The new Parry and Parry Counter are obviously attractive, but the trailer’s blend of metal music and explosive gameplay is enticing. It shows off a combat system that seems to have taken all of the criticisms pointed at it and created something that not just addresses them but renders them redundant. It’s looking fast, fluid, and vicious enough to make us sit up and pay attention, after all.
Of course, a trailer is only a part of the bigger picture, and we’re going to wait until we actually play this one before we judge its new additions. When that day might come remains a mystery, though.
