One of the best announcements that Microsoft made during their E3 press conference earlier today was the Halo: Master Chief Collection, which will include all four numbered Halo games on a single disc for the Xbox One. Also embedded into that announcement was the fact that Halo 2 especially has gotten the full ‘anniversary’ treatment- it’s been completely remastered to be in HD, and will have all the same accompanying perks that Halo Anniversary did on the Xbox 360.

The extent of that remastering cannot be understated, as the comparison above shows. 343 Industries have done a wonderful job of modernizing iconic Halo 2 locales, while still maintaining their original spirit. It’s a wonderful touch up, and should do an excellent job of tickling the nostalgia bones of everyone who grew up on Halo by channeling the most popular title in the franchise.

Halo: The Master Chief Collection releases later this year exclusively on the Xbox One.
