Joining the mysterious free content and early release phenomenon, Halo 4 has seemingly gained the new Forge Island map a full two weeks ahead of schedule. Even better, it’s free for all players.

The map can be downloaded from Xbox Live Marketplace by searching for “Forge Island” specifically. The Halo 4 currently doesn’t show it as available, perhaps due to the early launch. It was first announced for April 11th at PAX East so understandably it’s a little odd that it should come so quick.

However, it apparently passed the certification process early. And now here we are.

Forge Island is essentially a highly customisable map which is essentially flat and barren on its own. However, it can be used to build many unique and exciting environments for playing multiplayer. Heck, it’s pretty much the go to tool for creating wacky scenarios and insane conditions for players to just muck about in.

Along with the three massive islands, Forge Island also presents a green screen, most likely for future machinima making purposes.
