Halo 5: Guardians’ Warzone mode has introduced quite a few interesting twists especially with the REQ System and the mix of mobs with enemy AI players. However, many have pointed out how it seems to resemble MOBA titles like Dota 2 and League of Legends. To 343 Industries’ credit, it’s not exactly denying those similarities, according to multiplayer design director Kevin Franklin in conversation with Games.On.Net.
“What we started off really early with was the AI bosses, they took a little while to come together, but you could definitely make parallels with MOBAs there which we’re not shying away from.”
That being said, players won’t have marine troops assisting them to make it more of a MOBA title simply because 343 Industries “couldn’t just recreate Summoner’s Rift”.
Franklin also talked about Warzone becoming a spin-off of sorts, though some fans still have certain expectations from Halo titles. It’ll be interesting to see how it works out and whether players prefer it to traditional Big Team Battle.
Halo 5: Guardians will be out on October 27th for Xbox One.
