Microsoft was apparently trying to tease some big Halo 5 related news for this weekend- there was a proper Twitter tease, and a full on countdown, and everything- but it might have been prematurely leaked with the Halo 5 trailer that was put up on YouTube a while ago. The question now is, was that trailer it? Or might we expect more information on the game over the weekend (which is when the countdown leads to)?
Even if we were not to get any more information about the game other than the (hype as heck) trailer, I would be satisfied, but I am inclined to think that there might be more going on here. After how much Halo’s brand equity has taken a hit recently, thanks to Halo: The Master Chief Collection, and Halo 4 to a lesser degree, it is possible that Microsoft is trying to drum up the hype cycle for the next entry of its flagship franchise a little early this time. It may be the only way to counter all this recent negative inertia.
I guess we will see.
