Halo games have been on a three year development cycle since forever, with the one exception to this being the five year gap between Halo 3 and Halo 4 (albeit that was still punctuated by multiple Halo releases in the interim). As a result, and also because Halo 5 updates have been slowing down, there were many who expected Microsoft and 343 Industries to push Halo 6 out this year. After all, that would make sense, right?
It might, but that doesn’t mean it has to happen. In a new blog post, 343 Industries strongly seems to hint that Halo 6 will not be happening this year.
“Welcome back! To be frank (or Grim, really), I’m not sure if that’s a welcome back to us, or you guys, but let’s go with it either way. 2018 has arrived and with it, the promise of new fun times to be had and adventures to be embarked upon. No, not those adventures, but plenty of exciting ones regardless – some which might surprise you more than others.”
Now, the interesting thing here is that they seem to be suggesting something other than Halo 6– which, what could it be? Halo 3 Anniversary? A Halo TV show or movie? A brand new IP by 343 Industries? Something totally anti climactic? We don’t know yet, but it’s an intriguing possibility they have raised. Hopefully things are clearer come E3.
