Hearthstone Developers Explain Absence of Switch Version

“We don’t have any current plans.”

Of all of Blizzard’s games, the one that is best suited for the Nintendo Switch is Hearthstone. The Warcraft themed collectible card game uses simple touch inputs and isn’t too graphically intensive—it would World perfectly on the Switch, and also add the allure of a version of the game on the go.

Then why exactly does this not exist yet? Speaking to DualShockers, Game Director Ben Brode explained that while the team loves the Switch, they also feel that the iOS and Android versions of the game already fill the niche that a Switch version of the game would service, making it feel rather redundant.

“It’s possible but right now we don’t have any plans to do that. We are already on mobile so a lot of players who have Switches also have mobile devices and they could play on those devices or tablets. There are things like you have to be online to play with players and you keep your collection online so there’s stuff that is just a little more challenging there.

“I love the Switch; I’m a big fan of that console. I have a Switch that I play all the time so I think everyone gets how awesome it is. I’m not sure that Hearthstone would be 100 percent perfect there. Also, we’re also servicing a lot of those players via mobile and tablet. So, I don’t know but we don’t have any current plans.”

So that’s that—for now, a Switch version is simply not on the cards (heh). That said, given that Hearthstone can run on a toaster of a PC, or even a low end smartphone or tablet, you can still play it if you want to. You don’t have to hold out on a Switch version, unless you are absolutely adamant you won’t play it anywhere else for some reason.
