The Division is Ubisoft’s next big IP for this generation, promising us a post apocalyptic open world, seamlessly connected, persistently online and dynamic adventure of the kind that they first promised to us with Watch Dogs. Of course, Watch Dogs kind of failed to live up to most of its promises, so let’s hope The Division fares better on that front.
Anyway, snark aside, if you’ve been curious as to how The Division’s much hyped social and multiplayer (especially PvP multiplayer) features will work, now we have an answer, coming directly to us from the horse’s mouth:
“You could be in a group in the Dark Zone, you’d be very aware when you’re in the Dark Zone, and that single player, you could come across them also in the Dark Zone and decide to engage if you want. But you won’t randomly run into them when you’re doing missions or when you’re in the base of operations,” game director Ryan Barnard said to Gamespot.
As to what a ‘Dark Zone’ is, it’s how players who are not in your social zone will be displayed and classified in your game, allowing for a more unstructured PvP experience than something like Destiny can offer.
The Division is set to release on PS4, Xbox One, and PC some time in 2015. Stay tuned for more coverage.
