Hideo Kojima Comes Clean Once and for All, Says He Will Continue To Make More Metal Gear Games

Posted By | On 27th, Jun. 2010

So, remember when Kojima said he was through with the Metal Gear series, and that this game would be his last in the classic franchise? What’s that? Which time am I referring to? Oh, it doesn’t matter, you get the point. Well, Kojima has just contradicted himself (again), and come out clean- he will continue to make more Metal Gear games. Joy.

This unrestrained admission comes on the heels of the comments made by Metal Gear Rising producer, that hinted that Kojima may already have started work on the next Metal Gear game. Konami later clarified, by issuing a terse statement- “Hideo Kojima will continue working on Metal Gear Solid games.”

Well, I don’t know what I’m supposed to say to that. While I love the Metal Gear series, in spite of its pretensions, and its large number of idiosyncracies, I basically want it to end and retire when it’s at the top, and not be milked and flogged to death. I don’t want it to outstay its welcome. The universe has been explored so well, and any more will feel just artificial. Why doesn’t Kojima instead focus on bringing us Zone of the Enders 3? Or hell, work on that new Castlevania game?

Yeah, what I feel about it has no say in the matter. Kojima will make more Metal Gear. For most, that’s good news. As for me, I’m officially marking this generation as the one that marks the death of creativity in video gaming.
