Hideo Kojima Is Most Followed Game Director, Per Guinness World Records

I doubt there's any disputes.

No matter which medium of art and entertainment we’re talking about, it’s rare for a Creator of something to become as big as the creation itself. Even rarer is for a Creator to outlive their creation. But when it comes down to it, Hideo Kojima personifies that. He spearheaded the popular Metal Gear Solid series for nearly three decades, with he himself being as big as that brand in a lot of ways. And now with the Metal Gear franchise seemingly dead, Kojima is still trucking with his own studio and that fame has continued well after he left Konami. And if there’s any doubt, well, now he’s officially the most followed Game Director out there.

Today it was announced that Guinness World Records has officially recognized Kojima as the Most Followed Game Director. He currently has 2,813,385 Twitter followers and 888,539 Instagram followers, dwarfing pretty much any other Game Director.

Regardless of what one thinks of Kojima, and there are a lot of strong opinions about the guy right now, he definitely is a legend of the industry. There’s few people who wield the type of creative control over his projects that he does, nor someone who can manage to stay relevant for thirty years in their respective space. His latest game, Death Stranding, is available now for PS4.
