Thank goodness this is a leap year.

Oculus Rift’s pre-orders are now out of the way, and the headset starts shipping out soon. HTC and Valve will tip their hand about their upcoming VR headset, HTC Vive, on February 29 this year. Yes, it’s a leap year, which means that that’s not a trick date. One can never be sure about these things when Valve is involved.

HTC’s Cher Wang has confirmed the date in an interview with The Telegraph, and he mentioned April for a wider release- which would mean that the Vive was staggered by just about a month after the launch of Oculus. However, considering the extremely high price of the Oculus, and the negative reaction to that, Vive may have a chance to negate that minor head start if they just price their product right.

The last person on the VR train, Sony, are yet to unveil their launch and pricing details for PlayStation VR, though they did hint that they may do so at GDC, which is in March.
