"We’re just starting to think recently about how can we expand that universe," says Ubisoft's Julien Galloudec.

It may have started development as an Assassin’s Creed Odyssey offshoot, but with Immortals Fenyx RisingUbisoft have successfully launched a new IP. Exactly how successful it is isn’t something they’ve talked about yet, but so far, it seems like it does have a future ahead of it. The game’s developers certainly hope so, at any rate.

Speaking in an interview with Nintendo EverythingImmortals Fenyx Rising associate director Julien Galloudec said that the hope within the development team was to be able to create something that can, in the future, be expanded into a franchise, and that Ubisoft has started giving some thought to just how that can be done.

“The focus for a long time was making sure we can do something great with that opportunity to create something new, and obviously as a developer we all hope that it can be something bigger and it can become a franchise, but we’re just starting to think recently about how can we expand that universe,” he said.

He went on to say that currently, that process is focused purely on the game’s post-launch expansions, but that hopefully, in the future, it will move on to more Immortals games as well.

“Talking about the post-launch, we are right now working on the DLC and that was the beginning of ‘Okay, now we can explore other gods, we can explore other mythology,'” Galloudec said. “We can expand that universe with new characters, new locations, new stories. So right now we’re in the middle of that, making sure the game is great, making sure we have great DLC, and after that, everything in the end is up to the players, and we hope everyone will give it a try and will love it, and hope players will give us the opportunity to go further with the franchise, even if obviously it’s what we hope for.”

Immortals Fenyx Rising is available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. Its third expansion, The Lost Gods, is releasing on April 22, and promises to do some pretty different things. Read more on that through here.
