Immortals Fenyx Rising Name Change Seemingly Came Because Of Monster Energy Drinks

Stranger than a Greek myth.

After a rather lengthy delay, Immortals Fenyx Rising got its grand re-reveal for its release near the end of the year. The game takes the Ubisoft open world approach and applies it to a cartoony look with a callback in design to older action-adventure titles. But if you recall, the game was originally revealed under the title Gods and Monsters. Its new title is certainly more unique, no doubt, but it seems the change may have been sparked from a very odd place.

It seems as if the trademark for Gods and Monsters was challenged by… Monster Energy Drink. That’s right, the energy drink company seemed to want to challenge the game’s name due to the monster in it. You can read the opposition documents through here. While it’s unclear if this the only reason for the name change, it seems Ubisoft decided it just wasn’t worth the effort to fight in the end.

Immortals Fenyx Rising will release for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Switch, PC and Stadia on December 3rd. You can check out a raw hour of gameplay footage to check out the game through here.
