Ubisoft recently confirmed that Gods and Monsters, which they had revealed at E3 2019, has officially transformed into Immortals Fenyx Rising, and the game, with its new look, tone, scope, and name, will be unveiled in full at the Ubisoft Forward digital showcase next week. Ahead of that, however, several details of the game have leaked thanks to a listing that has gone up prematurely on the Microsoft Store.
Most notable, the listing mentions that Immortals Fenyx Rising will be releasing on December 3 this year- if that turns out to be accurate, it’ll be the third major AAA Ubisoft game to release in the space of three months, hot on the heels of Watch Dogs: Legion in October and Assassin’s Creed Valhalla in November (and this isn’t even counting that rumoured Prince of Persia remake).
The listing also mentions that Immortals Fenyx Rising supports Smart Delivery, which isn’t surprising, seeing as all major upcoming Ubisoft games are confirmed to be supporting free next-gen upgrades on both the PS5 and the Xbox Series X. This is notable, however, because back when the game was Gods and Monsters, next-gen versions for it hadn’t been confirmed.
Gameplay details on the game have also been mentioned in the listing. Immortals Fenyx Rising features a “stylized open world”, divided into seven unique regions, each of which is inspired by a god of the Greek pantheon. Players will make of mythical powers of the gods, such as Achilles’ sword and Daidalos’ wings, as well as “skills and diverse weapons, including self-guided arrows, telekinesis, and more”, to take on deadly enemies such as Medusa and Cyclops. Combat is described as “dynamic” across both air and the ground, while “solving ancient puzzles” is also mentioned.
There isn’t much mentioned about the central narrative conceit, though the store page does say that players will take on the role of Fenyx, a Greek demi-god, who is on a quest to save the Greek pantheon. “The fate of the world is at stake – you are the gods’ last hope,” the blurb reads. Additionally, those who pre-order the game will also get a bonus in the form of an additional quest, called A Tale of Fire and Lightning.
Some screenshots and images from the game have also been included in the store listing. Check them out below.
When Immortals Fenyx Rising was Gods and Monsters, it was also due out for the Switch. Whether or not that’s changed remains to be seen- we should find out soon enough though, with the Ubisoft Forward event scheduled for September 10. Stay tuned for more updates until then.
