While we know very little about what it will look like, last year it was announced that IO Interactive would be making a James Bond game, currently dubbed Project 007. The team has worked almost exclusively on the Hitman series, of which the third game in a reboot trilogy came out earlier this year and is still getting support. Many people were excited about the announcement, and saw it as a perfect matchup. Unsurprisingly, some of the first to see that were the IP’s overseers.

In an interview with GamesIndustry, the former Director of MGM’s interactive business development spoke about MGM’s newfound push into the gaming realm. When talking about Project 007, he reiterated what many thought after the announcement: that IO and Bond were a perfect match. He said that their new push into gaming was all about finding the right fit, and they think they hit the jackpot here.

“It’s also about authenticity, and we want to make sure that fans are happy with the experiences that we and our partners are providing. We really look for partners in development and publishing that are talented but also understand the IP and brand in a way that will flourish through the gameplay. Gameplay is king, the experience is king, and we want to make sure we’re providing great experiences with or without the IP. The IP should really make the game sing at the end of the day.

“It all comes down to identifying the right development partner. IO is the authority in stealth and agent-oriented games, so they truly were a dream come true in terms of studios to partner with on James Bond. They have a deep, deep passion for the IP, and they’re extraordinarily talented. It’s a match made in heaven, IO Interactive and James Bond, and we’re working on something we think is going to be very special for fans.”

Little is known about Project 007, neither a release date, official name, or platforms at this point. We’ll keep you updated
