Job Listing Indicates Retro Studios’ Next Game Will Have “Non Linear Storytelling and World Building”

Just what is the creator of the Metroid Prime trilogy working on?

One of Nintendo’s most beloved studios is Retro- these are the folks who brought Metroid back in a big way a decade and a half ago with the Metroid Prime trilogy. They would go on to repeat the feat with Donkey Kong Country afterwards; and while a new Metroid Prime game is coming, we already know that Retro Studios is not working on it.

No, that’s a different studio- so what is Retro Studios working on? That has been the subject of quite a bit of intense speculation among Nintendo fans for a while. Now, a LinkedIn profile update indicates that whatever they are working on may have “non linear storytelling” and world building”- which is the kind of thing that appeals to western sensibilities greatly.

But that doesn’t work with any existing Nintendo IP- so either Retro is greatly reinventing an existing Nintendo franchise (which, to be fair, they have done previously, and Nintendo themselves are going fo on the Switch these days), or they are working on an entirely new IP. I don’t know which one would be more exciting at this point, to be honest.
