Frontier Developments’ Jurassic World Evolution recently made headlines for hitting the Platinum tier on Steam’s 2018 Best Sellers list, standing alongside the likes of Warframe, Warhammer: Vermintide 2, and Far Cry 5. Considering the game was less than a month old at the time, that’s no small feat. However, developer Frontier Developments has now confirmed that one million copies of the game have been sold since released.
This encompasses physical and digital sales across all formats. Frontier CEO David Braben shared his thoughts on the milestone. “We are really pleased with Jurassic World Evolution and are delighted to have crossed the 1 million unit threshold so quickly,” he said.
“There is no doubt that initial sales have benefitted from the worldwide awareness created by the film release, but it’s the quality of the game that’s really important and I believe our team have done a terrific job in creating a game that a wide range of players are now enjoying around the world.”
The digital version landed on July 12th, with the physical versions for Xbox One and PS4 releasing on July 3rd. This sales total was achieved in five weeks. While that may not sound impressive, considering the genre and how it’s only the third game from Frontier Developments after Elite: Dangerous and Planet Coaster, the milestone remains significant.
Jurassic World Evolution received above average praise from critics upon launch. GamingBolt’s own review praised the attention to detail and structure of the campaign, while also noting the odd bit of downtime here and there. What are your thoughts on the game? Let us know in the comments.
