Microsoft’s exclusive installment in the Killer Instinct series will release for X Box One hopefully within 2013. IGN has published a series of videos and teasers, giving us a more in depth look at the game play and the characters of the little known series.
Killer Instinct’s original release was in 1994, for the arcade. It was developed by RARE studios (now a subsidiary of Microsoft), and published by Midway and Nintendo. Killer Instinct did so well that it was transferred over to SNES and Game boy consoles the following year.
Killer Instinct 2, the 1996 sequel was released once again for Arcade, and was then ported over to the Nintendo 64 under the new title, Killer Instinct: Gold. Since that time we have seen no new additions to the series, that is until now.
Killer Instinct (2013) is a reboot of the original Killer Instinct for Arcade, and will be a traditional Mortal Combat/Street Fighter style fighter. New to the game play mechanics will be character-specific “special attacks” coupled with the series’ signature Ultra Combo system.
From everything we’ve seen so far with updated console technology, it seems the season of the reboot is drawing neigh. Let us greet it with freshly charged controllers and open disc trays.
