Ending the hype-filled Super Smash Bros. Direct Nintendo broadcast this morning was the announcement that King K.Rool, the villain from the classic Donkey Kong Country series, and a fan favorite whose inclusion in the franchise has been requested for over a decade now, will be a playable character in the new game. The announcement was made in the typical tongue-in-cheek troll style that series creator and director Masahiro Sakurai is known for, with the video initially seeming to be a fakeout and focusing on King Dedede, before abruptly confirming K.Rool’s inclusion.
King K.Rool is not the only fighter that was announced today, either. In addition to Simon Belmont, other characters announced this morning included Chrom and Dark Samus, who are confirmed to be included as Echo Fighters, with Chrom acting as one for Fire Emblem‘s Roy, and Dark Samus acting as one for – drumroll please – Samus.
Sakurai also confirmed that there are more new character announcements for the game left- but that they will come later. I wonder what these are. I only hope they include Rex and Pyra from Xenoblade 2… Super Smash Bros. Ultimate launches exclusively on the Switch on December 7.
