Game development is no longer confined to just countries like the US, Japan, or the UK like it used to be- it is now global, and even a single game is simultaneously developed in multiple parts of the world in a modular process, before it is all brought together right before release.

This will also hold true for Square Enix’s upcoming Kingdom Hearts 3, it appears- according to the LinkedIn profile of a graphics designer at the Indian firm Laksyha Digital, the development of characters in Kingdom Hearts 3 has been outsourced to studios in India (incidentally, if the LinkedIn profile has been edited to remove references to Kingdom Hearts 3, you can check out a screencap of it below the post).

This should also be good news to the burgeoning, but ultimately disappointingly small game development community in India- if major AAA publishers are trusting Indian studios with development on their big games, maybe it won’t be too long before Indian game development is a thing.

Kingdom Hearts 3 will launch… well, sometime, we don’t quite know when, actually- on Xbox One and PS4. Stay tuned for more coverage.
