Kingdom Hearts 3 Gets Extensive Gameplay Overview In New Video

On a gameplay and mechanics front, it seems like the game will be every bit as great as its predecessors were.

Kingdom Hearts 3 is almost here, and ahead of its release, Square Enix has released a brand new video that acts as an overview of the gameplay. The video proceeds to show us multiple things, including Sora being able to equip multiple Keyblades (and being able to swap them mid-fight), magic (which seems to largely function like it did in Kingdom Hearts 2), mini-games, the Gummi Ship, summons (now known as Links), and of course, Attractions, which will let Sora summon Disney theme park rides to wipe out the Heartless. I am not joking.

A lot of the footage in the video appears to be fairly heavy on spoilers, so unless you actually don’t care about the story, you might not want to watch the video. On the mechanics front, on the other hand, the game seems to be kicked up to the max. People who enjoy Kingdom Hearts games as action RPGs are unlikely to find this title disappointing.

Even with the weight of almost 15 years of expectations on it, however, Kingdom Hearts 3 is poised to succeed because of sheer built in momentum. The game launches on January 29 for PS4 and Xbox One, just four days after it launches in Japan—but if director Tetsuya Nomura is to be believed, this may be the closest to a global launch the series gets for a while now.
