Look Square, when you show off a game early, but refuse to follow up on it with any concrete information, people eventually begin to lose interest. You’d think that they would have learned that after the decade long waiting cycle for Final Fantasy 15, but apparently, they are keen on repeating the feat with Kingdom Hearts 3 too.
You see, just a week before E3, in the newest most anticipated games list from Famitsu Weekly, we find that the next entry in Square’s Disney crossover series is no longer ranked in the top 10. Perennial chart toppers Final Fantasy 15, Persona 5, and Final Fantasy 7 Remake are at the top of the chart as always, while other titles, such as both, the 3DS and PS4 versions of Dragon Quest 11, Pokemon Sun/Moon, and Tales of Berseria continue to put in strong performances. Meanwhile, even a title as niche as Etrian Odyssey 5 is now on the lists- but Kingdom Hearts 3 is nowhere to be seen.
With E3 just a week away, maybe Square Enix can turn it around. Maybe they have a killer showing for the game at the show, and people gain interest in it again. Or maybe they’ll just focus on their immediate upcoming lineup, since they have admitted that Kingdom Hearts 3 is currently over a year away, and people will have even more of a reason to forget about the game.
Maybe. We’ll find out soon.
