Life is Strange 2 seems set to follow in the footsteps of the beloved original game, based on the quality of the first episode. But said first episode came out at the end of September, and we’re almost into December now. Where is Episode 2? How long do we have to wait before we get to play it?

Speaking in a blog post, developers Dontnod noted that they have been unwilling to share a release date until they knew they had something concrete to commit to, and that they didn’t want to rush the game in any case, since they are attached to this project immensely. However, they did promise that the second episode will be playable in January 2019 (which is anywhere from a month and a half to two months from now, and four months after the first episode launched).

“The Life is Strange series is a project close to all of our hearts and one for which we do not want to rush development and thereby fail to meet the benchmark of quality and emotional impact that you, our players, deserve,” they wrote. “This is why we so far have not announced an official release date – we want to ensure that we will be in a position to release something that we are proud of and that you will enjoy and remember forever.

“We understand that there are certain expectations that episodes will be released at a similar cadence as previous Life is Strange games have. The ambition of Life is Strange 2, however, means that the previous frameworks no longer apply if we are to meet the quality of play and storytelling that our vision for a game like this demands and that you deserve.”

When exactly in January is Episode 2 releasing, then? Dontnod promised to share that in an update in mid-December, but for now, January 2019 is all we have.

Life is Strange 2’s first episode is out on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. It will also come to Mac and Linux next year.
