Farming XP makes you stronger, so it’s completely natural to look for the most efficient way to do so in any game, and Like a Dragon: Ishin! is no exception. The game comes with a lot of activities, and figuring out the most optimal way to progress your character isn’t easy. However, this guide has listed the best ways you can maximize your XP gain and unlock skills faster. So without further ado, let’s begin!

How to Maximize XP gain during Combat in Like a Dragon: Ishin!

Battle Dungeons

An additional way to earn experience is by taking part in a Battle Dungeon, which you will be introduced to in Chapter 5. These dungeons offer various missions, with increasing difficulty as you advance through them. It is important to equip yourself with powerful gear before embarking on these quests. Upon completion of a mission, you will receive not only experience but also money and valuable items.

Following the Grading System

In combat, your overall performance is evaluated using a grading system. However, this system is not straightforward and relies on more than just avoiding damage. The grade you receive is determined by three factors, which are detailed below.

The Attack score is based on the number of combo chains executed, with multiple smaller combos being better than one large combo. The Defense score is determined by the number of successful parries and dodges. You can achieve a high Defense score by dodging or parrying six times in a row, even if you receive damage during the fight. The Technique score is based on the number of heat actions (skill attacks using the heat gauge) executed during battle. Two heat actions earn a B score, while three earn an A, but duplicate heat actions don’t count.

Doing Side Quests

By completing side quests, you can earn XP and fight a variety of enemies that will also provide additional experience points.

How to Unlock Skills faster in Like a Dragon: Ishin!

  • When you level up in the game, you’ll obtain a soul orb. There are two types of soul orbs: Training Orbs and Style Orbs.
  • The Training Orb can be used to unlock skills and abilities from any fighting school. You’ll earn one Training Orb each time your character levels up.On the other hand, the Style Orb is specific to a certain fighting style. You receive a Style Orb when a particular fighting style reaches a new level, and you can only use it to unlock skills and abilities for that style.
  • To unlock skills quickly, it’s recommended to do some research before choosing a fighting style that suits you. Then, focus your Training Orbs on that particular fighting style, rather than experimenting with different schools. This approach will help you unlock skills and abilities faster for your preferred fighting style.
