The Lord of the Rings Gollum

The Lord of the Rings franchise is one rife for different settings, characters and ideas to explore. One that you may not have expected to come, however, was that of the upcoming The Lord of the Rings: Gollum that will star the obsessed antagonist. We haven’t seen any of the game up to this point, but today we got several screenshots, and much like the unlikeliness of the idea itself, they probably aren’t exactly what you expect.

Developer Daedalic Entertainment released the screens, which you can see below. Probably the thing that jumps out right off the bat is that the game has a much different art style than what we’ve come to expect from the franchise, being much more stylized than recent games based on the fantasy epic. You can also see some of the stealth-based gameplay here as Gollum is seen sneaking by some foes.

As of now, The Lord of the Rings: Gollum has only been announced for PC and next generation consoles, the PS5 and Xbox Series X. No word yet on if it’s potentially cross-gen, or when we can expect a release date.
