Machinima
Media provider Machinima, which creates and hosts content primarily for Youtube including Inside Halo and Red vs. Blue, has cut 23 employees today, primarily in its editorial group. Machinima Editor-in-Chief Rob Smith spoke to Joystiq, stating, “This is growing pains. Machinima has grown a lot in a short amount of time. We had to look at the business, look at where we’re focusing. It has hit the editorial group, but we are still doing editorial coverage in a slightly different way.”

But then, Machinima is also looking to hire. Not to mention the lay-offs coming one day after hiring former Yahoo category lead for Entertainment & Travel Debbie Menin as its new vice president of partner development to improve their traditional network television marketing.

In an official statement, Machinima stated the following: “Today Machinima underwent a reorganization to address its global growth, and this process unfortunately resulted in layoffs. Less than 10% of Machinima’s workforce was effected. Also as part of the restructure Machinima is hiring across key divisions including Sales, Marketing and Product.”

Signs of the video producer selling out and turning corporate, emphasizing its brand over the quality of it’s programming? Well, why not?
