Mass Effect 3 Leviathan DLC: Is it vital to the story?

Bioware fixed the much despised endings with the extended cut DLC that came out earlier, and now with the Leviathan DLC they aim to add an additional rift to the ending in their words.

Something lurks in the dark corners of space, something powerful enough to kill a Reaper. Shepard must discover the most closely guarded secret in the galaxy before the Reapers silence it forever. Discover more about the origins of the Reapers as you race across the galaxy to find the Leviathan. Unravel the dark history of the Reaper Race before it is too late.

Sounds good, but is this what players really want? The DLC does not impact the main story or the endings in any way and is something just additional story based content for Mass Effect 3 players to enjoy. This should have been included in the main game. A reaper arc where you get to find a weapon strong enough to destroy them is something that would have really suited the main game, but a DLC at this point seems completely useless.

If you don’t want to bother with playing the game again for the extended cut endings, you can watch them over here.

The DLC will be available for $10 or 800 MSP on the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.
