Mass Effect Andromeda Won’t Have Familiar Characters, Combat “More Dynamic” But “Similar” to ME3

Storyline reasons dictate famous characters not returning.

Mass Effect Andromeda

Despite the lack of gameplay footage and scant story details, Bioware’s Mass Effect: Andromeda has had us excited since its official announcement at E3 2015. Senior development director Chris Wynn shared some new information on the same through Twitter and somewhat dashed any hope of older characters returning.

This is primarily due to Andromeda taking place in a completely different galaxy. According to Wynn, “story wise, it wouldn’t make much sense.”

Wynn also revealed that the gameplay in Mass Effect: Andromeda was being built from scratch. “All rebuilt in the new engine. Partly why we need so much time on this one.” So if you’re annoyed at the lack of gameplay footage till now (we know we are), then remember that it’s taking Bioware time to get everything together.

However, it seems combat will be quite similar to Mass Effect 3. When a fan assumed it would be a lot like ME3 but with more features, Wynn replied, “Your assumption is a safe one. There are some new elements that make it more dynamic, but overall similar feel.”

Mass Effect: Andromeda will release in 2016 for Xbox One, PS4 and PC.
