The latest Media Create charts, which cover sales in Japan for hardware and software from December 25th to December 31st, are finally. As you’d expect, the Nintendo Switch is currently dominating the region – Super Mario Odyssey sold 105,551 units, bringing its lifetime sales to 1.397 million units.
Splatoon 2 meanwhile sold 96,404 units with lifetime sales of over 1.764 million units and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe sold 87,356 units with lifetime unit sales of over 1.132 million units. Check out the overall sales for games below:

Hardware sales are similarly encouraging as the Nintendo Switch sold 134,519 units in that time period. The PS4 is in second place with 37,175 units sold followed by the New Nintendo 2DS XL with 20,409 units sold. Full hardware sales are as follows:

Perhaps the biggest takeaway is that the Nintendo Switch’s hardware sales have passed the local lifetime sales for the Wii U in Japan. Till December 31st, the Wii U managed to sell 3,329,127 units while the Switch sold 3,312,619 units.
