Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon, released for the Nintendo 3DS, is on top for the third week in a row in Japan according to Media Create sales compiled by Gematsu.
The game sold 56,562 units in the past week, averaging a lifetime sales number of 515,975 units sold. Meanwhile, Animal Crossing: New Leaf is in third place but managed to sell 36,709 units to average a lifetime sales number of 3,062,077 units sold.
On the hardware side, the Nintendo 3DS XL and 3DS are still holding on to the number 1 and 2 spots respectively. The former sold 28,139 units while the latter sold 18,584 units – both down from 34,180 units and 22,684 units sold the week prior. Sony’s PlayStation Vita has managed to covet third place, with 14,112 units sold.
Overall, the absence of any high profile releases in the past few weeks has lead to Nintendo’s puzzle platformer staying on top. Then again, it has met with great critical response. Tune in next week to see if our cowardly ghost hunter is still on top.
