Sales down all around but the New 3DS XL still reigns supreme.

New Nintendo 3DS

Nintendo had a bumper Holiday season in Japan with the New 3DS XL. This carried over into the first week of the New Year but some of that momentum seems to have died down according to the latest Media Create sales charts.

From January 5th to 11th, the New 3DS XL sold 30,455 units. Compare this to the prior week when the handheld sold 76,439 units. That’s a more than 50 percent drop off in sales but it still reigned supreme in platform sales. The New 3DS did relatively less well with 14,226 units sold compared to the prior week’s 40,338 units. Altogether, it seems that the market is quickly adopting the new handheld in a hurry.

The PS Vita wasn’t too far behind – it sold 21,536 units compared to 56,700 units the week prior. This was followed by the PS4 which sold 19,118 units. It’s a large drop-off from the prior week’s 42,216 units.
