PEACE WALKER DROWNING ITSELF
The moment when Naked Snake throws away The Boss’ bandana at the end of Peace Walker and accepts the title of “Big Boss” may not seem like a very sad one on paper, but its implications are quite profound. His final fight against Peace Walker was one that wasn’t going very well for him, and it was only when The Boss’ AI took control of the machine and, in her ultimate quest to achieve peace, caused it drown, that the tide was turned. Snake was forced to watch The Boss sacrifice herself yet again, and when he threw away her bandana and finally accepted the title of “Big Boss”, it was a turning point for him- it was at that moment that he rejected the idea of peace, and started down the path of becoming the global terrorist that the world would one day know him as. When viewed with full understanding of Big Boss’ past and what happens to him after that point, that moment comes across as truly heartbreaking.
