Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain is the biggest game in the long running stealth-action franchise. Featuring engaging gameplay and intense stealth mechanics, Metal Gear Solid V could take anywhere from 80-150 hours to complete each and everything in the game. The campaign mode features 50 missions in total [which does not include mission 51 which was deleted for no apparent reason] but a few of these missions will need to be replayed at a higher difficulty later on.

At the time of writing, The Phantom Pain features two endings. Mission 46 is the the true or the real ending of the game and we have a guide for that which will tell you how you can unlock it. Before we jump into the walkthrough it’s important to note that this is a different type of Metal Gear game. Set in a vast open world, you will need to spot enemy placements, build your motherbase, send your units for combat and recruit people by fultoning them. All of this requires a ton of patience and this isn’t a game which you can finish over the weekend. So give the time the game deserves.

Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain is now available for the PS4, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. Let us know if you have any questions in the comments section below. For more video game guides, tips and wikis, check out here.

Mission 45: A Quiet Exit

First of all you need to make contact with Quiet which will happen automatically once you begin the mission. Thereafter you have to eliminate the Soviet Mechanized unit which includes 14 vehicles and a gunship. Other Optional missions include obtaining the Quiet’s secret cassette tape which can be found at the end of the mission, extracting seven armored vehicles and seven armored tanks and completing the mission without quiet taking damage.

Mission 47: [Total Stealth] The War Economy

You need to identify the arms dealer and the CFA official by using your binoculars. Once that is done you need to eliminate the CFA official and the extract the arms dealer. Optional objectives include listening to the conversation between the arms dealer ad the CFA official, extracting materials container insider the Nova Braga Airport and finding the blue print carried by the gunship.

Mission 48: [Extreme] Code Talker

Again, a mission that needs to be replayed. You need to make contact with Code Talker and extract him out using the fulton. However the Skulls are waiting for you outside so you can optionally eliminate them and extract them as well.

Mission 49: [Subsistence] Occupation Forces

Secure the deployment plans bu finding the intel file. After that eliminate the colonel which you can find in a truck. Simply destroy the truck, eliminate all the tanks. Optionally, extract the colonel, fulton out the colonel and the tanks before they reach Smasei fort.

Mission 50: [Extreme] ST-84 Sahelanthropus Boss Fight

Mission 46: Unlocking The True Ending

Complete all the main story missions. Please note that you don’t need to complete 45, 47, 48, 49 and 50. Complete all relevant side ops which are marked as yellow in your idroid. Once you have upgraded Mother base to a certain level, Mission 46 will unlock on its own.

Mission 51: Kingdom of Flies

Although not included in the game, Episode 51 explains the intentions of the protagonist, Psycho Mantis and Liquid Snake in a broader sense. According to me this ending clarifies why Liquid Snake hated Big Boss so much. Too bad it is only available in a video form in the Collector’s edition of the game. Regardless, a Youtuber uploaded Mission 51 which you can check out below. I wonder whether there were actually more missions in the game that were removed due to deadline restrictions. A big shame that this did not made it to the final game.
