The same sense of humour

With Rising focusing on Raiden’s transformation and descent as he adopts his cyborg ninja form, you may be concerned that the game will feel a little too serious in comparison to other Metal Gear games. Whilst the series has always dealt with serious and affecting subject matter, Kojima’s games have always had a trademark sense of humour. Even with Kojima only serving as producer on Rising, it seems his humour will still permeate the game. Just check out Raiden serving up some watermelon at 2:08 in this trailer. Classic stuff.

Sub-weapons

It's a little hard to see, but that's definitely a dagger in Raiden's left hand

In his ninja incarnation, we only ever really see Raiden using his high frequency blade. Whilst this, in conjunction with the free-slicing mechanics, will provide a majority of the game’s thrills, there needs to be alternative weapons for players to choose from. Enter sub-weapons that will bolster Raiden’s arsenal. Aside from their existence we know very little about what to expect, though Raiden has been seen with a dagger in the tid bits of gameplay footage on the net. Fingers crossed the sub-weapons will offer more variety than just different lengths of blade.

Hunting stealth

Stealth will feature in the game, but it will be more about preying upon your foes from the shadows

Though Rising is going for a faster pace than its predecessors, it’s important to note that it is still a stealth game at heart. Creative producer Shigenobu Matsuyama has described Rising’s gameplay as “hunting stealth” as opposed to the “waiting stealth” seen in previous Metal Gear titles. Players will be able to use Raiden’s new found speed and agility to stalk and prey upon their foes. I’m guessing it will play out a bit like Splinter Cell: Conviction on steroids, but only time will tell.
