Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 is shaping up to be a promising follow-up to its stellar 2020 predecessor, and that becomes increasingly clearer the more we learn about the game. While it is set to build on the 2020 title’s foundations in plenty of iterative ways, the game is also set to introduce some significant new gameplay features- such as the ability to exit your plane and walk around.

Yes, you read that right. Fight and aviation are obviously going to be the heart and soul of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, but speaking with PC Gamer, Microsoft’s Flight Sim head Jorge Neumann revealed that the upcoming instalment in the flight simulation series will allow players to explore the entirety of its massive, highly detailed map on foot.

“You can now exit the plane, walk around, in [Microsoft Flight Simulator] 2024,” Neumann said. “You can literally walk your favorite mountain path to your favorite hut in the mountains. Sit on the lake. See the sunset. It is truly a digital twin you can absorb.

“I think everybody has their own sort of emotional place… when MSFS 2020 came out, everybody flew to their house, and then the house where they were born, and then the houses where their friends are, their family.

“I’m very curious to see where people fly, because we improved the world so much in 2024 that it’s worth revisiting, and there’s some features we haven’t talked about yet that I think are going to make that fascinating.”

When those features will be revealed remains to be seen, but with the game set to release within a few months’ time, it’d be safe to guess that Microsoft will be continuing to roll out new information on the game in the coming weeks and months.

Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 launches on November 19 for Xbox Series X/S and PC.
